29 October 2019
Weldon Village Hall
Some of the best drumming experiences I have had are when I have attended drum classes with other like minded players. I love sharing stories about playing whether they are good or bad. Learning from other drummers is a must to progress with the art.
This October, I will be giving you the chance to study with not only me, but the amazing Jonathan Curtis. I first met Jonathan when I performed at the Nottingham drum festival back in 2013. Back then I was blown away with the amazing sound and talent that Jonathan has. Since then he has created a career teaching and also performing with his band ‘The Jonathan Curtis Electric Band’. He is now a published author with his fantastic book Linear Freedom. He will demonstrating idea’s from the book during the day. This book with also be available for purchase. Check out the link below where Jonathan explains how the book came together.
I will also be performing myself during the day. Rudiments and how we adapt them in our playing is a passion of mine, but also how music really works. I will be working with you to create a backing track and for us to discuss and perform a groove within these ideas. These ideas will be created by you. Sound fun? It’s not as complicated as you think. By the time you leave the class, you will hopefully have more of a understanding how these things work and how chord progressions work with our drumming. This will be and interactive class, giving you a chance to play on my drums.
Playing fast around the drums is one thing. But to play music, to play with people for others to listen to, that’s something else. That’s a whole other world
